I've been having a lot of bad things going on in my family, including the unexpected death of my mother. We burried her today. The weather was near perfect so I decided to have some Cycle therapy and drive the 90 miles to the cemetary on the Venture. Loved the forest part, but those freeways still scare the **** out of me. I watch those kids on their crotch rockets wizzing through traffic and can only shake my head. I guess I wouldn't be much good on the autobon!
How much protective gear is it common for Europeans to wear for riding? Tom

Sorry about the death of your mother, my prayers are with you. I lost my dad in September. I had also some times I was riding my bike to clear the head from the thinking about. In my opinion the best therapy you can get. One time I was riding and thinking about not to make the way back but too much depends on me, so I returned and it was right done. I think a good protective clothing is common and depends a little bit on the weather. In this times to wear a good and warm protective clothing is easy to wear. In most cases I wear at least good shoes, trousers and a protective jacket and always a helmet. Greetings Roland

my condolances Tom. hopefully you don't start to see everthing in black though. concerning those youngsters with their reckless driving it might be a small relief to know that they are driving better outfitted bikes then we used to have in those days. And concerning the autobahn; don't believe all those wild stories. On those parts with no speedlimits the average speed is still around 120 km/h. When drinvin 100km/h you are still not the slowest

Sorry to hear about your Mother passing away,I know how you feel,I lost my Mother last year,it was like losing a big part of me,my prayers go out to you & your family.
I am a bit slack when wearing protective gear,I always wear boots, leather waistcoat & helmet & sometimes my leather jeans,I do love my arms bare when I am riding with plenty of music.

Thanks for your words of encouragement, regarding my loss. My mother was my light.
I have always been a solitary rider. I am now 56, been riding since I was 16 and have never been a part of a club, or even had a riding buddy for that matter. I have joined two clubs now so I can finally get educated. Never used protective clothing, except for helmet. Now, when I meet with others, I watch people get suited up in chapps, huge boots, and leather, leather and more leather. I wonder to myself, just how much of this stuff is really necessary. Like Noel, I like to have my arms out. Thinking of getting a vest - need something to put some patches on. I also need to learn the lingo. I feel stuped when talking to others, so I hope that you all don't mind a stupid question once in a while. Tom

Hi Tom , Sorry to here about your Mother we all know how you feel. As regards to protective clothing here in England if you dont wear it you will get hurt as the average UK car driver does not give a Fxxxxxxx Sxxx and are allway saying at an accident "I did'nt see him" so i allways wear leather with armour in the Knees and sholders and elbows etc . I do motorcycles for a living and would not ride without protection of some sort. Ride Safe out there its a Jungle
