Sure, Chopper. I was just waiting for the question to answer it. ;D ;D
That building is called the Militar Academy of Calvery from my home city (Valladolid).
You are only seing a small part of the building, the front one, but it is really huge. I could not step backwards a little bit more to take a better shoot becasue there was a fence from a park, but I do have a chance to try different angles and make more pics. Yesterday I was in a hurry, but I hope this weekend I can do it.
Now, also for the contest, can anybody read what it says on top of the gate? And if you can read, what does it mean in English?
If anybody wants to do a search about the building on the net, try in Spanish: "Academia de Caballeria" along with "Valladolid". Maybe they have something. It is a very important building in the militar world of my region.
More coming.
See ya all.
Nacho.

OK, guys as I promissed on Friday, I went back to the Academy last Sunday and got new pics, one of them from another angle. Here are the pics. OK. And to continue with the contest, right after I took these pictures, I went right to the center of the city and made these other two pictures. That is the City Hall. It is the place where our Major and all the politicians work everyday (at least that is what they say). Right in front of the building (all the red surface of the grown) there is a huge square, our Main Square. Ian has been there. It is the area where all the restaurants and bars are located. Great "tapas" all around. Please notice that this square is just for pedestrians and taking the picture was really hard. If a policeman saw me right there with the bike, I could be in a serius problem. I only stayed there for 20 seconds, just to take the pics and leave. I hope you like them. Hasta la vista, Nacho.

Thanks guys.
John, there is a reason why the streets are so empty and quiet. It's Sunday after lunch at 16:00 PM. Yes we have lunch at 15:00 PM in Spain. So it is "siesta time".
It is amazing how a half million people like mine can be so quiet and empty at that time. But I can tell you, two hours later, those same streets and the Main Square were so bussy with people all around that not only trafic with vehicles is a bit difficult. Also pedestrians make lanes when they walk.
I have never do the siesta. I never liked it unless it is very hot in summer and I can do the siesta under a big tree, fresh and listening to the birds. But the rest of the year, I don't take those naps, so instead of that, I take the bike and ride downtown while my wife sleeps and simply enjoy reading the papers at some nice old cafés. It is a greta pleasure for me to ride the Venture in theose six lanes huge avenues with no cars around and all the city just for me. Call me "crazy", but I love it.
You know, Spain is different.
Anyway. Much more pictures coming, I tell you. I always have my cammera with me, so any time I ride, I have new chances to take more photos.
Hasta la vista,
Nacho.

This building is called the "Evoluon". It was build about 30 years ago to celebrate the 75 years anniversary of Philips, the electronics company. Initially it was a hands-on museum of science, nowadays it is a conference center.

Buena noches , Nacho. the writing on the military house means: Academy of cavalry, this is a part of the military which riding with horses, it is i think over hundred years old. i would write it in spain but i forgot all my studies in espana, couse it is near 20 years ago that i learnd it. maybee i refresh it in the next time and next vacaciones en espana. i was many times in spain like figueras, barcelona, taragona (Tamarit), alicante, valancia, madrid and south i think the name is murcia, also with my bike along the cost (very wonderfull) and also in ibiza (1980). i like spain la pais and the people la gente. it is a good idea to show where the venturers life, but not only the famous buildings, show also the backyards of the wonderfull familyhauses, than the other viewers can imagine whats going on. show also official partys, or inoficial (smile). i know in spain are wonderfull citypartys with musicgroups and knights, caballeros, wonderfull dressed ladys and more. i see a big party in denia. see you soon in the forum or en la bella espana. hasta la vista amigo p.s. i have to learn how i can put some pics in this forum, to show some of my little world.
