My bike is backfiring quite impressively when I shut off the throttle after having cruised for a while.
So coming into bends down hill when I shut down she pops quite loud.
On motorways when she's been on high throttle for a while she gives very loud bangs.
I'm thinking (and hopping) it's just overfueling a bit and not worn valves. It doesn't seam to be valves as she revs cleanly and doesn't pop when on her stand, just after having her pulling for a bit.
OK so somebody please tell me where the air screw is and which direction it goes to give her a little more to breathe.
cheers

Doc, problem number one is not that bad. Your bike gets to much gas !! Take it to a service station. I am pretty sure that you will have problems with the top speed as well.
It has nothing to do with the airflow !!
Hope that will help you my friend.

Well its something I want to have a crack at myself while I've got the fairings off.
To much fuel must be being delivered at the carbs (top speed does seem low but I haven't had her out anywhere fast without a load on). Its really a question of if I need to adjust the amount of fuel on the jets or hight of the slides?
Sorry Bunnie I can't be a Gaston, it will cause too much confusion, what with my best mate being called Gasket.

Doc, for my opinion you need to adjust the amount of fuel on the jets. Typical sign for that is if you go downhill and you shut her down, she pops loud. ;D ;D ;D

There is a dicussion about this on the US site, they reckon 2 turns from when closed, try a search on the site & read what they have to say. Found the link. www.venturers.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2116&highlight=carbsHere's another answer to your question. jeffer wrote: Can I add to this question, and not help with the topic? I think I "over adjusted the carbs" on my bike as now it pops a little as I blimp the throttle, and doesn't seem quite as smooth. How do I undo the adjustment? Suggestion oh great and savey carb techs? Jeffer, it is not clear what you were doing. If you were balancing the carbs then the only adjustment screws that should have been turned were on the throtle linkage that are used to get all the throttle plates to be open the same amount. The idle air/fuel mix screws are not used to balancing the carbs. Did you turn the mix screws in an attempt to balance the carbs? Did you get the carbs in balance? If for some reason you did turn the fuel mix screws, a good place to return to would be all the way in and then two turns out. Just for information and understanding, count the number of turns it takes to turn each screw all the way in so you, and we, know where you are right now. It may help to know later. The full reasonable adjustment range for those screws is from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 turns out. If for some reason you are out of that range to get the bike to run well, something else is wrong. If you do need to reset the idle fuel/air mix screws, than rebalance the carbs as they are likely going to be a little off. _________________ Joe

Sounds like I'll be getting a hard time At least until I've finished my first half of shandy and passed out. Then I'll be safe.
