I came back from an hours ride on a 83'VR & everything working as normal,I parked up for about 30mins,I went out to start the bike & the starter switch was completely dead, off came the false tank cover, checked everything, bewildered by this time,so I decided to do the cup of tea & a cig trick, sat back looking at the bike & done some real thinking.Well,I thought to myself, have I done anything different from other times & yes I had.For the first time I left my bike outsde over night & somebody mentioned that it had been raining heavy during the night, then I thought of you guys talking about how these bikes don't like rain much, then I thought of the kill switch, but then I used the starter about 3 times when I was out for that ride & why should the kill switch play up now,I finally realised that there were alot of neighbors kids playing around,as kids do,they love to pull & press switches & things,I went back to the bike & I held in the starter switch & I rocked the kill swith back & forth & she started, what a relief,my diagnosis was,I always use the key to turn off & on & never use the kill switch,so when i went out riding it worked perfect, but one of the toddlers had moved the kill switch & put it back to run position by chance, that allowed a droplet of water to get between the contacts of the kill switch, got the WD 40 & sprayed it well into the kill switch, back to normal again,I was getting worried, only 2 days before I head off on a European trip,so guys, watch out when washing your bike, only takes a small droplet of water to break the contact on a switch.
