Hi Dutch, yes it's the same. For my case, I have rebuild the original of mine ( for 150 euros ) in a little company, specialised on these parts ( this company build schockabsorbers for some Dakar race teams ). Good results .
Can others confirm that all XVZ1200 / 1300 Venture / Royal Venture have the same shock? To be clear: this does not include the 93> Royal Star (venture). As you all know a little modification by the manufacturer can give a big headache.
As for the bike I know inside out: The rear of the 1st and 2nd generation FZ750 looks identical. But Yahama changed shock and links system. So a mk1 shock (eye-eye) does not fit a later FZ. That shock has a eye-fork and although the 3rd (and last
) generation FZ has different wheels, shock is same as mk2.
I have had contact with Technoflex about the shock and the price levels. The price for the fully adjustable advanced shock depends on whether the remote reservoir is connected by hose or if it is a piggy back type reservoir. The latter is more expensive to produce hence a slightly higher price tag. What will be the best option on the Venture depends on the space available near the shock and has to be determined when Technoflex has an XVZ at their work shop to develop and test the shock. A hose type is the most likely solution.
Developing a shock (that is: make sure it fits a specific model bike and works excellent for that model, link system etc) costs time and is not economical for a single unit. I spoke to Technoflex and we agreed they will develop a shock for the 1st generation Venture when there are at least three (3) firm orders. An emulsion type is made with the data from an advanced, so 1 advanced and 2 emulsion means 3 shocks = green light
The Emulsion type shock should be more than good enough for most riders and much better than any 15-20 year old original unit. Apart from age technology has come a long way since.
An Advanced is even better and a fine piece of technology, if it is worth the extra investment however is up to you. When you are a very sporty rider and switch between riding solo and two-up with luggage it can be worth it! Not to mention the blingbling factor
Below please find the normal catalog prices including 19% Dutch VAT. If I supply directly to a private person, I have to add Dutch VAT, no matter if the buyer is in the Netherlands, Germany, UK, Australia or on Mars
Prices are excluding shipment cost, within the EU that will be around 18 Euro. All shocks have adjustable spring preload and rebound damping.
Emulsion type shock absorber 463 Euro
Advanced with hose, compression damping low speed 653 Euro
high and low speed 713 Euro
Advanced piggyback, compression damping low speed 701 Euro
high and low speed 760 Euro
Options:
ride height adjustability +82 Euro
hydraulic preload adjustment +249 Euro
With a combined offer of at least 3 shocks I can give a rebate on above prices. Each shock will still be made according to rider weight and riding still and come with full 60 month warranty! I will give exeptional prices, those will not be possible after we are finished with this collective purchase: Emulsion 64 Euro rebate = 399 Euro, Advanced 90 Euro rebate. The person who volunteers to put his/her Venture at Technoflex in Schijndel NL for a few days wil get a bigger rebate, altough I can't promise really big bucks due to the already low collective purchase prices (can't give it away twice). For Germany: shock comes including a 'Teilegutachten'.
Regards, Dutch
