I herad some time ago that OK was originally written KO. They used this words during one of the old wars in Europe (I can't remember wich one).
After every battle, they had to count the dead people. OK meant "ZERO KILLED" and therefore, people started to use OK as a word for something that was perfect, good done, without mistakes, like a battle without deads.
Please send me the price to Boecillo, Valladolid in a box with my name on top of it.
Thanks a lot,
Nacho.

I had to go with the German guy, in hopes it was the right answer!! I think I would have chosen the name Otto Kemplerer just to make us Americans think of the German actor!!

OK is an American term. It is an abreviation of the name Okeotuc, the origional Honest Injun. During trading of the American colonists with the indians, one indian stood out for his honesty. His name became synonymous for it. When something was good and beyond question, it became known as OK. Tom

Ok, you can believe it or not but something strange happened here. When I put up the poll I thought up most off the answers but one, which I thought it was the answer. Looking it up on the internet, just for a doublecheck, almost all of them are theories about it's origin. Weard. Personally I think the theory about the Quality controller Otto Kerner is true. On the internet Otto Kruger is mentioned. Therefor, since there is no unique explanation, there are only winners. So everyone can add a new question. Here are the most serious links I found en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okayokay.biography.ms/www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/3/messages/536.html
