I just got back from having lunch with Ytu, one of the new two presidents of the Spanish Venture Club. He was just on a trip near where I live and he called me to see if we could see each other. Of course, I said yes and we had a nice time.
We spent 95% of the time we were together in talking about the International Meeting of 2008.
I am very pleased that both, the new presidents and their helping teams are very interested in arranging the gathering and also willing to help everybody to make the meeting come to a good end. they are more people, with more ideas and new ways of doing things and I was really surprised of how many things they have done already in just one week since they are in charge of the club. I know now that the change was very necessary (I was getting a bit rusty).
They are working already in several and different chances and everything seems to be possible to do a great thing. From more than 10 different ideas they offered, we have already taken away a few of them. First one was doing the thing in Madrid. You won't believe it but there is only on company in Madrid to hire bikes and it is not what we need. Also, we said no to a meeting in Almería, at the very South of Spain because of distance (1000 km from French border).
So, we (they) are studying 3 more options, all of them at the Mediterranean coast so people can make their own holidays before of after the meeting close to the beach.
These three options will be close to the French border, close to Barcelona or close to Oropesa and Benidorm. All of the three areas will have camping choice, good hotel possibilities and would take Barcelona as the airport of reference for any international flight. Also Barcelona has more bike hiring possibilities, which we will search in the next few days for everybody to check. Please note that this message is being posted in both, at the American forum and the European one, all the information here may not be of interest for everybody (airports and bike hiring for the USA boys and routes and holidays stuff for the European guys who may decide to spend more days just resting in the country of sun, siesta, fiesta and nice girls).
Presidents have put several guys of those areas to work and ask city halls, restaurants, hotels and other companies for their offers and possibilities.
They have found special places with the right capabilities to host any kind of meeting. One of the is famous in the country for several musical events that host huge shows for more than 15.000 people, with space enough for camping, showers, services of all kinds and many other things.
I know that this is not what you expected and that you wanted just the name of a city, to start arranging things. But believe me that we have done in only one week more work than the one I could have done in several months. Please allow a few more weeks and I am sure that we will get the final location and the right services for everybody to enjoy a perfect gathering. I gave to the new presidents a few advices of how an international Venture Meeting should be done. The best thing is that they will follow them but they will also add lots of new ideas and things never done before in these kind of meetings that will make the Spanish Meeting special and unforgettable. Really. I trust these boys.
However, if you have any question, doubt or any suggestion about all this deal, please feel free to contact me public or privately. I will let the new team know your thoughts and they will consider every single idea no matter how dumb it is.
So. You can't imagine how happy I feel and the good feelings I have now that more people are involved in this project.
