My screen is looking pretty scratched up. Not major deep scratches, just wear, tear and having been polished/washed with something abrasive. Is there any way to restore the finish to a screen or is it time for a new one

Answering my own question here.
I did a look on the net and the stuff that looked best was called a Novus 1, 2 and 3 plastic polish kit. This is 3 treatments 3 takes out the bigger scratches 2 the small stuff, and 1 polishes it off. I've ordered a kit from eBay and I'll let you know how well it works when I get it.

Here we go. I've had a go at my screen over the weekend with Novus scratch remover. By hand it was really slow so I used a drill with a felt mop for the No3 and then a fur mop for the No2. Much quicker but does throw spots about. In total I used about 1/4 to 1/3 of each 8oz bottle. I'm very happy with the results, but judge for yourself. Before I took the screen off. This is just started after one application of No3 polish. The done section is on the right (as in that is not polish on the screen on the left). The final result back on the bike. It didn't take out a very deep scratch. I would needed to take away a large depth of perspex with emery cloth to get that out, and then cleaned out the sanding marks with the polish. It would work but would weaken the screen and cause adverse lens effects. OK I guess on something like the edges.

That's not a bad price for a screen,I heard they were 3 to 400 dollars in the USA,maybe I'm mistaken. It's a pity that this site you found Doc is not in English.

I got my Novus off of ebay, not expensive at all, I don't know anyone selling it where we could benefit from a bulk order, though it can be bought in 5L packs which makes it cheaper. Noel if you want to buy a screen from those people you should maybe have a word with Fabian and ask him to help set up an order for you. If it can be done through the web site. You could try contacting the UK distributers at: GREAT BRITAIN: MOTO BINS (only for BMW parts) 16 surfleet Road, Surfleet Spalding, Lincolnshire PE11 4AG UK Tel.+44 (0)1775 680881/680580 Fax: +44 (0)1775 680860 sales@motobins.co.uk www.motobins.co.ukand see if they will get you one. This could be one of the things where making a bulk order directly through the club might lead to great savings. It's really a case of how many people would want a new screen at the same time though.

Doc,I found another 2 stock mirrors in classifieds on US site,$80 + Shipping,I have bought a few things off Scotty. The only problem is the time it takes to deliver,he is in Canada.
Rudy, that's why the delivery time is so long,Canada can be expensive on shipping.

Hi all of you, For light scratches you also can use dental paste... Yes it works. I use this system for my CD and DVD. Just use it perpenticurlarly to the scratch. Novus is a good product. An other kind of produduct to test is the one to remore and clean transparents acrylics and polycarbonate that you have on boat and mobilhome. I asked a dealer, he also spoke about 2 products (the first for scratches and the second for finishing). Better that Novus or not ? I saw "starbrite" products like this on the net. Will go to a boat dealer this evening and saw what he offers.

We had plegde in the UK too Greg, don't know if its exactly the same stuff. It has an antistatic foumula which helps repel the dirt.
I was oringinaly going to get the boat product but the only online seller I could find was out of stock so I went for the novus as that is the one they use for aircraft screens.

Falko: It comes in an aerosol can, I will check on the shipping regulations for pressurized cans. Do you have to pay a tax if I label it "Product Sample"? ;D

Hi guys, Just to tell you that Pledge is a Johnson product. You will find it in Germany under Pronto www.scjohnson.de/produkte/prd03_pronto_cleandust.htmlI cannot imagine that they change the recepies ? But test it before on a hiden place to be sure. In France, products are distributed under Pliz, but I never see the one with citrus odour. What I use for the painted plastic parts is "Fee du Logis" from this manufacturer and It works good. Never used on the wind screen. Fabian
